D3 Remanufacturing
Adaptive optics: failure analysis and refurbishment
The adaptive mirror controls the focal position – contaminated or damaged, cut quality and speed suffer. We find the cause and refurbish the mirror.
Typical damage patterns
- Contamination
- Black discoloration often indicates water leaking from the mount or moisture in the purge gas. Improper cleaning with tissue, acetone or ethanol attacks the coating.
- Beam alignment
- Beam not parallel in one or more axes, hitting the lens holder; beam mark not centred or optics mounted incorrectly.
- Beam mode
- A distorted mode concentrates a lot of energy on a small mirror area – up to destroying the mirror. The cause is usually misalignment or a beam delivery cooling fault.
Refurbishment
With our own cleaning and refurbishment process we remove carbon deposits and surface oxidation without damaging the sensitive coating. Reflectivity, savings versus new parts and the recommended service interval are documented per job.
